Great Friday Interview

This last Friday was a make it or break it day. Our main interview subject has been very quiet. We were very afraid she wouldn't open up about her life and we would have no main character. But we got lucky. One of my students, Misty, got her to open up and we got a good interview out of her. She didn't share much, but she shared enough that we've got a story now. The students are now transcribing the interviews and I hope to have a script in the works by next week. Another side note: I know now why you never take the mic off your subject. After the interview, we walked the subject back to her apartment. We took some footage in her apartment where I noticed pictures of her kids. She set downand started talking about them and I didn't have a mic on her. I hope the camera mic got some of it, but I could have kicked myself. You learn a lot from your mistakes.

First Production Notes

Hey all
Here is my experiment with bloging a video production of mine. I have five students that I am working with on a documentary project about Rural Homelessness with an agency here in Monmouth. We have shot some footage of our subject helping out at the agency and shot two interview with the co-directors of the agency. I will relate one note to all you video producers. Never allow an interview subject to wear an athletic jacket during an interview. He was swishing troughout the audio and I had to reshot it. It became a good object lesson for my students. We will be interviewing our main subject, a client of the agency, next week. If all goes well, I hope to be in post production right after easter.
